YOUR ROLE

You will represent the fields of Status Monitoring and Machine Learning in the Department of Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering. You will teach basic and advanced subjects on Bachelor and Masters degree programmes at the Department of Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering. These include data processing, programming techniques, systems and software engineering, the basic principles of measurement and control technology, and courses on operational stability. You will also supervise excursions, student projects, placements and Bachelor and Masters dissertations. If necessary, you will run introductory engineering classes and teach in English. HAW Hamburg already cooperates with Hamburg Shanghai College as well as with the University of South Wales (Scotland) and the Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain).

You will further develop the field strategically and work out new teaching and research content that takes into account industrial development in the course of digital structural change. Through your teaching and research, you will strengthen the profile of the Department and the Faculty. You will be willing to engage in interdisciplinary partnerships with other fields and departments at the University.

You will actively work to raise external funding, publish research findings in professional journals and implement cooperative doctoral programmes with partner universities. You will be expected to actively collaborate in one of the four research and transfer centres in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science.

We also expect you to be prepared to take on roles in University self-government bodies and attend professional development courses for higher education teachers

YOUR PROFILE

You have a university degree in the engineering sciences or applied computer science and hold a doctorate.

You have several years’ professional experience in the field of automotive and/or aeronautical systems engineering, preferably gained in industry or research institutions. You possess extensive experience in the practical introduction and application of digital tools and methods in terms of automotive and/or aviation factors, particularly machine learning in status monitoring. In this respect, the typical lightweight structures in vehicle and aircraft construction and their operational stability are of particular importance. In the medium term, an expansion of the teaching in this field is to be expected, which is likely to be characterised in particular by an increase in the digitally-networked systems technolo-gy in the area of transport and the necessary robust functional characteristics.

You ideally have previous teaching experience and an interest in the use of modern university teaching methods. As regards your work in the Department of Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering, we expect significant leadership experience, which you have acquired through the management of national and ideally also international research and development projects. You will tailor your approach and actions to the university’s long-term goals, and are able to develop reliable solutions in a team.

INFORMATION

For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply. These can be read on our website.

This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.

The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.

As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.

Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
