You will primarily represent the subject area “Controlling” in our Bachelors degree programme on “Foreign Trade/International Management" and in our Masters degree programme in “International Business”, which also includes the basic principles of accounting. In addition, you will also provide students with the necessary technical and methodological skills that are arising in the area of Controlling due to the increasing digitalization of businesses. You will also actively support the further development of our range of courses and represent this field within the scope of international partnerships. Finally, we expect you to participate actively in the academic governance of the department and the college.


We seeking an individual with relevant scientific qualifications as well as several years of relevant professional experience in the area of controlling, preferably with an international focus in international businesses in industry or trade and in a responsible position. We require experience with relevant IT systems, as well as modern data-based methods of analysis and controlling concepts. In particular, you can demonstrate this through experience with the use of at least one of the following tools: 1) Dynamic planning / forecasting tools, 2) BI / reporting tools, or 3) Advanced Analytics. Professional experience gained in the conceptualisation and implementation of digitalisation projects in the area of controlling is also desirable.

We look forward to hearing from committed candidates who will be able to inspire our students for this field. Candidates should therefore have the relevant teaching skills, if possible acquired through academic teaching experience in this area at a university. If possible, you have already gained experience in the application of competence-oriented teaching and testing. You should have also worked in an academic capacity subsequent to your doctorate. You will also bring an interest in and willingness for application-oriented research to the role.

Some of the classes will also take place in English. We therefore expect you to be able to provide teaching in English and German without any problems and to be able to communicate confidently in both languages. Applications from academic professionals currently living abroad are also welcome.


For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply. These can be read on our website.

This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.

The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.

As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.

Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
