The Department of Media Technology at HAW Hamburg covers the subjects of AV Production, Light, VR/AR, Media Informatics and Games in its teaching and research. It is part of the Faculty of Design, Media & Information, where it links up with the subjects of Design, Artistic Research, Journalism, Knowledge Sys-tems and Digital Transformation. The Art and Media Campus Hamburg is also home to the Hamburg Media School, parts of HfbK Hamburg and the public televisions channel, TIDE TV.
With its topics of video technology, production and distribution in digital channels, the Chair for Video Technology and Production covers the technical basics in these fields and is a core area in the Department of Media Technology. It offers connection possibilities to the above-mentioned areas.
Application-related laboratory teaching takes place in the professionally-equipped video laboratory, where the students complete their study projects in the area of Video Technology and Production. The video laboratory also allows for research into current topics from a practical perspective. Good opportunities for networking are also available with the laboratories on the campus.
Your responsibilities will include teaching in the Bachelor degree programmes in Media Technology and Media Systems in the classes “Video Technology 1” (Basics of Analogue and Digital Video Technology) and “Video Technology 2” (Broadcast, Digital Cinematography, HDR, IP-based Production, Projection Mapping, 360° Video), in the associated laboratory classes, as well as offering a compulsory elective module in the Bachelor on current topics in the area of Video Technology and Production. Your further tasks will include the provision of project- or research-based teaching in the Masters degree programme in
Time-based Media – Sound/Vision. In the above-mentioned degree programmes, we expect you to offer and supervise study projects and final theses in terms of technical, content- and design-related factors.
We expect you to be willing to take responsibility for the management of the video lab. This will include the responsibility for staff and resources as well as the technical development of the laboratory.
You will be required to partake in the applied research in the field of Video Technology and Production. Interdisciplinary collaborations with the Departments of Design and Information, the Departments of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in the Faculty of Technology and Information, and the Digital Reality Research and Transfer Centre are already up and running in this area. You will be expected to participate in these collaborations.
We expect you to be willing to cooperate in the academic self-governance in the role of Chair if necessary.
You have a university degree with a doctorate in an academic/technical degree (Media Technology or a similarly relevant degree in the technical or natural sciences).
You have professional and industry experience in video engineering and production through to distribution, with an eye on the current transformation towards higher quality video formats, multi-channelling, mobile platforms, IP-based production, remote production, virtual productions and the increasing use of AIbased systems.
Previous experience in management (responsibility for resources, staff) is welcomed.
For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply. These can be read on our website.
This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.
The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.
As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.
Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
