The chair will be responsible for basic and application-focused classes in instrumental analytics, bioanalytics and organic chemistry on degree programmes at the Faculty of Life Sciences’ Department of Biotechnology.
You will be able to teach current and relevant aspects of pharmaceutical biotechnology such as drug testing and analysis methods and processes, including mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and preparative chromatography, in classes on the English-language Masters in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. You will also contribute to scientific debate and thus expand the expertise of the department and enhance its profile.
We also expect you to be prepared to teach basic-level classes for other departments in the faculty.
In the future, the position is also likely to include the management of a chemical laboratory and HR responsibility.
You have a university degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, bioprocess engineering or a related area of science or engineering.
You have proven experience in instrumental analytics and bioanalytics and indepth knowledge of one of the above areas of pharmaceutical biotechnology. Professional experience in industry is desirable.
Research activities in the named field, partnerships and skills in obtaining external funding are also desirable. Collaboration in one of the research groups or research and transfer centres in the Faculty of Life Sciences as well as an interdisciplinary approach are expected.
You should have some teaching experience, interest in teaching issues and an interdisciplinary approach that enables you to communicate how the scientific basics relate to programme-specific content.
The successful candidate will take an active role in shaping skills-centred teaching and supervise placements, projects and dissertations and have English language skills. You should have managerial experience, ideally in the form of laboratory management and/or HR management.
A willingness actively to participate in shaping and further developing the department is required; this includes a willingness to take up positions on institutional self-government bodies in the department and at the faculty.

This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.
The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in
accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.
As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.
Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
