FAKULTY ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER SCIENCE
DEPARTMENT MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

SCIENTIST

IN THE COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH CENTRE (CRC 1615 - B05) "SMART REACTORS FOR THE PROCESS ENGINEERING OF THE FUTURE"

The position is a temporary full-time with end date 30.06.2027. A part-time arrangement is possible where operational requirements permit.

ABOUT US

To cope with climate change and to create resilient supply chains, a switch from fossil to renewable raw materials is essential. Under the leadership of the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), the CRC 1615 is developing processes and reactors that can react flexibly to fluctuating properties of renewable raw materials and enable more resilient process engineering. In subproject B05 "From sensors and trajectories to transport and mixing", which is being worked on jointly with the research group of Prof. Padberg-Gehle from Leuphana University Lüneburg, the aim is to gain a better understanding of flow-influenced transport and mixing processes in chemical reactors. The aim is to identify zones with poor mixing and thus reduce their negative influence on reaction yields and the formation of by-products. As a data basis for network-based analyses at Leuphana University, experimental measurements of particle and sensor trajectories, e. g. by means of high-resolution particle tracking (4D-PTV, Shake-the-Box), are carried out at HAW Hamburg.

YOUR ROLE

  • experimental flow measurements: Particle tracking and sensor tracking measurements on process reactors
  • design and construction of various process reactors
  • image and data processing as well as data analysis in cooperation with the project partners of the SFB 1615
  • literature research as well as own publication of project results at conferences and in scientific journals

YOUR PROFILE

Required qualifications

  • scientific university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in process engineering, mechanical engineering, or a comparable scientific field of study

Desirable qualifications

  • proper written and spoken English
  • experience in the field of flow and / or laser-optical measurement technology
  • fun at laboratory and workshop work, especially setting up measurement equipment
  • ability to work in a team and organizational skills
  • experience with image and data analysis and common programming languages

WHAT WE OFFER

  • a dynamic position in an interesting area of work at an open-minded, forward-thinking university
  • membership in a team that welcomes your contributions and supports you during the onboarding and orientation process
  • support with obtaining further qualification/s as part of your doctoral studies
