We are looking for a
CHAIR W2: "DIGITAL ELECTRONICS AND HARDWARE-RELATED SOFTWARE"
REFERENCE NUMBER 089/22-2
The post is permanent and full time. Staffing is intended at 1st April 2024 earliest.
Developing sustainable solutions to the societal challenges of today and tomorrow. This is the goal of the
Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), northern Germany’s leading applied sciences university
when it comes to reflective practice. Our central focus is the excellence of our teaching and our degree
courses. Simultaneously, HAW Hamburg is continuing to develop its profile as a research university. People
from more than 100 countries help make HAW Hamburg what it is, and our diversity is our particular
strength.
YOUR ROLE
You will be required to competently represent the subject of digital electronics and hardware-related software in its various manifestations with practical experience in teaching and application-oriented research, and to actively participate in its further development. You will focus on teaching courses in our Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses on digital hardware and circuit design, microprocessors and bus systems in the framework of lectures in seminar form, practical laboratory courses and pro-jects.
You are also able to hold your classes in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses in the department in German and, primarily for the international courses of study that we offer, in English. You are also prepared to support the basic education in our technical degree courses and, if necessary, to familiarise yourself with other engineering disciplines and represent these in your teaching. You will also contribute actively to the further development of the degree courses and the teaching. We would also like you to set your own priorities here. Due to our cooperation with the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, it will generally be possible to teach in the joint degree course in Electrical Enginee-ring in Shanghai from time to time.
In addition to your teaching, you will also develop application-based research and development work. You are prepared to collaborate with other subjects and departments at the university on an interdisciplinary basis as well as with partners from industry and higher education.
We expect you to be willing to get involved in academic self-governance, by taking on a leadership role or advisory tasks for our students, for instance.
YOUR PROFILE
You have completed a degree in “information and electrical engineering” or “computer science” specialising in digital electronics and hardware-related software, or you have acquired corresponding expertise in a comparable course of study. You are also able to demonstrate your aptitude for academic research and writing by having successfully completed a doctorate which is related to the aforementioned subjects (at least “magna cum laude”). Your current longstanding practical experience in industrial or industry-related research and development is in the field of the subjects which are to be re-presented by the Chair as well as the teaching and research.
You have in-depth application knowledge of one or more of the following areas: Systems engineering of embedded systems, digital design with hardware description languages (for example, VHDL), hardware-related software develo-pment and real-time operating systems, (microelectronic) circuit design, bus systems and sensor technology or networked radio systems.
Ideally, you have relevant scientific experience in the fields referred to for the Chair.
You are willing to use your contacts to secure external funding and to further develop the profile of the university in the field of “digital information technology” at HAW.
You enjoy the methodological and didactic elaboration and further development of your teaching offering, and you have demonstrable skills in this area. Ideally, you have some initial teaching experience and are motivated to continuously advance your skills in the area of university teaching.
You are expected to be able and willing to work on a constructive and cooperative basis with your colleagues in the department. You will convince us of your ability to work in a team during the interview. You will demonstrate your methodological and teaching expertise at a trial lecture. In this respect, the ability to teach in seminar form and project work should take centre stage. If you intend to take on management responsibilities in our organisation, it is an advantage if you already have management experience.
