We are looking for a

The post is permanent and full-time. Staffing is intended at 1st September, 2021 earliest.

Developing sustainable solutions to the societal challenges of today and tomorrow. This is the goal of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), northern Germany’s leading applied sciences university when it comes to reflective practice. Our central focus is the excellence of our teaching and our degree courses. Simultaneously, HAW Hamburg is continuing to develop its profile as a research university. People from more than 100 countries help make HAW Hamburg what it is, and our diversity is our particular strength.

Electronic and digital time-based visual/audiovisual media are everywhere to be found. Technical developments are influencing media content, democratised means of production are blurring the boundaries between producers and consumers. Web-based asynchronous video distribution is taking the place of television, while the social media are creating new forms of moving image. Time-based visual/audiovisual media have become a fixed part of scenographic design and are becoming increas-ingly available in the public sphere. These changes demand a contemporary and socially-reflective artistic approach to the medium.

You will be responsible for the design-related teaching in the subject of time-based media in the Bachelor and Masters degree programmes in Communication Design. Interdisciplinary approaches to the teaching with other degree programmes in the Faculty of Design, Media and Information, as well as cooperative projects with other faculties and other universities and institutions are expressly welcomed.

We expect you to be willing to manage and develop assigned laboratory areas, including responsibilities for the management of staff and resources associated with a laboratory, and to participate in the self-governance of the department and faculty.

Research activities, especially in artistic research and initiatives for securing third-party funding, will be welcomed.

We are seeking an outstanding creative personality who is experienced in the conceptualisation and realisation of audiovisual time-related media, especially moving images/video, and who has an affinity for cutting-edge topics such as video mapping, digital spaces and audiovisual scenography. You also have experience of independent teaching, if possible, in the academic environment.

In your application, you will provide proof of your creative and teaching expertise with examples from your projects and your teaching. You are also requested to provide a summary of your content and didactic concepts for the teaching.

For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply. These can be read on our website.

This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.

The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.

As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.

Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.

The Hamburg University of Applied Sciences makes staffing decisions based on suitability, ability and professional performance. Disabled persons and their equivalents take precedence over legally unprivileged candidates of the same suitability, ability and professional performance.

In particular, we encourage female academics or experts to apply to this professorship. The underrepresented gender shall be viewed as preferable in case of equal qualifications in accordance with Section 14 Para. 3 HmgHG.

We offer you challenging work in an open-minded, forward-thinking university. You will be integrated into a team who enjoy your participation and are happy to support you in the early stages of your integration. Your workplace is centrally located and has very good public transport links.

The Hamburg University of Applied Sciences has set the goal of a gender-equal, discrimination-conscious university culture which is sensitive to diversity, and wants to achieve a balanced gender ratio. For queries in matters of equal opportunities please contact the equal opportunities officer.

We support our employees and students in reconciling work and family, e.g. with counselling services when caring for relatives or special emergency childcare situations. Our senior staff are authorised to lead teams with different work-times and work-life-balance models, as well as mixed age structures.

We welcome applications from candidates with a migration background. The Hamburg University of Applied Sciences is part of the diversity audit of the donors’ association and has been awarded as a family-friendly university on several occasions.

Hamburg University of Applied Sciences is committed to ensuring teaching excellence. Candidates are asked to enclose all important documents relating to their teaching experience in their application.

In addition, they are requested to include a brief curriculum vitae along with the usual application documents. You can find a
form online.
