The Faculty of Computer Science and Digital Society of HAW Hamburg invites applications for a full-time professorship in the field of computer networking and distributed systems to support teaching of Bachelor and Master courses as well as the faculty research activities. This position is designed for an experienced scholar who will play an active role in developing the teaching curricula and perform impactful research in the field.
The successful candidate will hold a degree in computer science or a related discipline and will have a proven record of scientific research, including a good or outstanding doctoral degree.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their general didactic skills by their prior teaching experience and a demonstration lecture during the appointment process.
The appointee must be willing to engage actively in teaching in the Faculty’s existing degree courses and in developing future curricula. As the successful candidate, you will deliver research and teaching whose impact will advance the educational and scientific profile of the Faculty. We are seeking to drive internationalisation within the Faculty and therefore wish to appoint a professor who can provide teaching in both German and English. The professorship further carries the expectation of active engagement within HAW Hamburg’s management and governance structures.
For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply. These can be read on our website.
This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.
The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.
As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.
Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 52 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
