You will represent the science of social work in teaching and research, especially the area of social work with senior citizens, with the focal topic of “Community, Work with Senior Citizens and Cultural Work”. You will be expected to teach in the degree programmes in the Department of Social Work. In this respect, your focus will be on the field of social work, in particular on

  • Imparting theoretical, conceptual and methodological knowledge in the field of a perspective which is oriented to the living environment and the social sphere with
    a view to gerontological change
  • as well as social gerontology in terms of the factor of social inequality in old age

In the scope of competence-oriented teaching, we focus on activating and interactive teaching and learning formats which are both analogue and digital. You will work with colleagues to (further) develop cooperative teaching concepts.


    You hold a degree in social work and/or the social or educational sciences, you have a relevant doctorate, professional experience in relevant areas of activity of social work, as well as teaching experience. Willingness to teach in English and therefore a good knowledge of English are desirable.

    We are seeking a team player who will contribute to the further development of the profile of the department in terms of the teaching, research and continuing education. Experience in the acquisition and completion of research projects is desirable.

    We expect an open approach to different cultures as well as the explicit consideration of diversity factors from an anti-discriminatory, appreciative and resourceoriented perspective in dealing with different affiliations in relation to the pluralised living environments in an ageing society.


    For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply. These can be read on our website.

    This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.

    The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.

    As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.

    Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
