ABOUT US

Developing sustainable solutions to the societal challenges of today and tomorrow. This is the goal of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), northern Germany’s leading applied sciences university when it comes to reflective practice. Our central focus is the excellence of our teaching and our degree courses. Simultaneously, HAW Hamburg is continuing to develop its profile as a research university. People from more than 100 countries help make HAW Hamburg what it is, and our diversity is our particular strength.

YOUR ROLE

You will represent the field of high-frequency and communication technology in teaching and research.

You will teach classes in the field of high-frequency technology, EMC, communication technology and electromagnetic fields within the scope of seminar-like lectures and practical laboratory work on a competent and practically-oriented basis. Your duties will also include teaching classes, predominantly on the basics of electrical engineering. Classes are taught in German and English within the framework of Bachelor and Master’s programmes in the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

You will also contribute actively to the further development of the degree courses and teaching. We would also like you to set your own priorities here and to implement aspects in relation to sustainability.

You will develop application-related research and development activities, e.g. in the field of modern antenna technology, sustainable components for mobile communications, new EMC certifications, energy-efficient transmission technologies or new, AI-supported concepts for adaptive, wireless communications.

You will take over a large laboratory with state-of-the-art technical equipment, including measuring cabins for EMC and antenna technology, which you will further develop and expand.

You are prepared to collaborate with other subjects and departments at the university as well as with partners from industry, business and academia on an interdisciplinary basis. We cooperate with numerous SMEs as well as with the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology as part of the Shanghai Hamburg College on a joint degree programme in electrical engineering.

We expect you to be willing to get involved in academic self-governance, by taking on responsibility for coordination, staff or laboratories as well as other advisory tasks, for instance.

YOUR PROFILE

You have a university degree in a technical/scientific subject (ideally with a specialisation in high-frequency technology, communications technology or a similar field).

In addition, you demonstrate your qualification for academic work with a completed, qualified doctorate.

You have several years of practical professional experience in industry or industry-related research and development. You are / have worked in the field of high-frequency technology / communication technology.

Ideally, you have in-depth application knowledge of one or more of the following areas:
high-frequency technology, digital transmission technology, radio systems and components, electromagnetic compatibility, the design of fast electronic circuits, CAD of electromagnetic fields. Working in English is a matter of course for you.

Your particular skills will allow you to maintain, update and strengthen our range of relevant course offerings within the faculty. Ideally, you have relevant academic experience. You are willing to use your contacts to secure external funding.

You enjoy methodology and didactics in your professional field, have proven skills and ideally some initial teaching experience, as well as the motivation to further develop your teaching skills in the field of higher education on a structured basis.

You are expected to work on a constructive and cooperative basis with your colleagues in the department. You will convince us during the interview of your ability to work in a team.

Diversity competence, especially in relation to handling cultural differences between students, is a prerequisite, and you are expected to take this into account when preparing your trial lecture.

You should also generally be able and prepared to assume the management of a laboratory team. You will demonstrate your teaching expertise at a trial lecture. In this respect, the ability to teach in seminar form and project work should take centre stage.
