You will represent the fields of plant engineering, process simulation in power engineering as well as mathematics or a similar basic subject in the degree programmes in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Production at the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science on an application-oriented basis.

Your responsibilities will also include supervising applied projects, laboratory sessions and dissertations for the Bachelor and Masters degree programmes, and developing the reciprocating engine laboratory.

With regard to the energy transition in particular, knowledge of one of the following subject areas: Sector Coupling, Power-to-X, Hydrogen Use or Heat Grids is required.

You should have theoretical experience and many years of practical experience in the area of plant engineering and process simulation. You will be required to partake in the development of the course content for the degree programmes in the department and in the design of the modular system, and to get involved in interdisciplinary events and projects. Furthermore, over the medium term, your participation in the development of the further education offerings in the area of renewable energies is desirable.


We are seeking a candidate with a degree in engineering who possesses profound scientific knowledge which they can demonstrate with a doctorate in the field of mechanical engineering, power engineering or a related area.

If possible, you should already have experience in teaching/the transfer of knowledge. Candidates must also be prepared and able to offer classes in English and to hold classes covering the basic principles of power engineering and mathematics.

We expect you to be able to organise and hold laboratory courses and to involve research assistants. We also require the ability and willingness to develop and regularly update laboratory experiments. This requires professional expertise, organisational skill, cooperation with research staff and students as well as compliance with legal provisions and constraints.

We expect you to have an interest and skills in research, development and transfer, and to be willing to apply for external funding. In this context, the interest to get involved in one of the above-mentioned topics is desirable.


For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply. These can be read on our website.

This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.

The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.

As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.

Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
