SCIENTIST

FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF FLUIDS FLOWS BEHIND BUBBLES

The position is a temporary full-time position, limited to 16 months from the start date, with 100% of the standard work hours per week (currently 39 hrs/wk). Apart-time arrangement is possible where operational requirements permit.

ABOUT US

The position is based at the Heinrich-Blasius-Institute for Physical Technologies in the Faculty of Sustainable Engineering, and the research will be conducted in close collaboration with the Institute of Multiphase Flows at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). The connection to the doctoral program “Sustainable Technologies and Systems” and the “Competence Center for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency” (CC4E) at HAW Hamburg, as well as the Collaborative Research Center 1615 “Smart Reactors” at TUHH, enables teamwork with diverse development opportunities and interdisciplinary exchange.

YOUR ROLE

    • design and setup of an experiment with controllable bubble swarm generation
    • flow measurements via particle tracking velocimetry
    • image data analysis to determine the mixing structures in the wake of bubbly flows
    • determination of the influence of mixing structures on chemical reactions in multiphase flows
    • creation of mathematical correlations to describe mass transfer in process engineering

YOUR PROFILE

Required qualifications

    • scientific university degree (master's or equivalent), preferably in process engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related scientific field of study

Desirable qualifications

    • knowledge in the field of flow measurements and flow analysis
    • knowledge of and joy in data analysis with applied programming languages such as MATLAB, Labview, Python
    • initial experience in experimental work (design, setup, implementation, evaluation)
    • good written and spoken English skills (comparable to level B2 CEFR)
    • ability to work in a team, commitment, sense of responsibility, initiative, and systematic approach to work
