We are looking for a
CHAIR W2: "INDUSTRIAL CONTROL TECHNOLOGY AND BUILDING AUTOMATION"
REFERENCE NUMBER 014/22-5
The post is permanent and full-time.
Staffing is intended at 1st September, 2023 earliest.
Developing sustainable solutions to the societal challenges of today and tomorrow. This is the goal of the
Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), northern Germany’s leading applied sciences university
when it comes to reflective practice. Our central focus is the excellence of our teaching and our degree
courses. Simultaneously, HAW Hamburg is continuing to develop its profile as a research university. People
from more than 100 countries help make HAW Hamburg what it is, and our diversity is our particular
strength.
YOUR ROLE
You will represent the teaching in the field of industrial control engineering, building automation and process control engineering in the scope of lectures in seminar form and practical laboratory work on a competent and practically-oriented basis. You are also prepared to support the basic education in our technical courses of study. You will also contribute actively to the further development of the degree programmes and the teaching. We would also like you to set your own priorities here.
You are also able to hold your classes in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in the department in English. With intellectual curiosity, you will also learn about other engineering subjects, if necessary, and be prepared to provide teaching in them.
In addition to your teaching, you will also develop application-based research and development work. You are prepared to collaborate with other subjects and departments at the university on an interdisciplinary basis as well as with partners from industry and higher education.
We expect you to be willing to get involved in academic self-governance, by taking on a leadership role or advisory tasks for our students, for instance.
YOUR PROFILE
You have a degree in automation engineering or have completed a comparable technical course of study. You can also demonstrate your aptitude for academic research and writing by having successfully completed an academic doctorate (at least “magna cum laude”) which is related to the aforementioned subjects.
Your current practical professional experience of several years in industrial or industry-related research and development also includes the field of industrial control and instrumentation technology.
You ideally have detailed application knowledge in the field of software methods in the above-mentioned specialist areas. Working in English does not pose you any problem.
Your specialist knowledge in the field of building automation will enable you to significantly enhance the study programme in the field of regenerative energy systems and energy management as well as the general field of renewable energy within the faculty.
An expansion of the study programme to raise our profile in the direction of “Building Automation” with possible focal points in the areas of “Smart Energy Systems”, “Energy Efficiency in Buildings” and/or the “Smart Home”, for example, is currently under discussion and an area in which we will rely on your collaboration.
Ideally, you also have relevant academic experience in building automation, taking energy efficiency into account. You are willing to use your contacts in order to acquire external funding and to further develop the profile of the university in terms of “Building Automation” at HAW.
You enjoy methodology and didactics in your professional field and have proven skills and ideally have some initial teaching experience, as well as the motivation to further develop your teaching skills in the field of higher education on a structured basis.
You are expected to work on a constructive and cooperative basis with your colleagues in the department. You will convince us of your ability to work in a team during the interview. You should also generally be able and prepared to assume the management of a laboratory team.
You will demonstrate your teaching expertise at a trial lecture. In this respect, the ability to teach in seminar form and project work will take centre stage.
